Trend Line Alerts

Stock alerts and forex alerts.png

Use timetotrade to execute trades, or notify you, when the Price tests or breaks through your Support and Resistance Trend Lines. You can set up alerts that will execute trades if the price closes below a Support level on varying intervals; if the Price touches a Trend Line with the alert checked on each tick; if the RSI breaks out of an upward or downward trend; if the High Price breaks through a Resistance Trend Line however the Close Price closes below the Trend Line; create multi-condition alerts that will execute trades for example if the Price touches a Trend Line followed by a change of Trend on the MACD. After creating your alerts, you can then quickly backtest your alert based trading strategies.

The following provides an example of how some of these alerts can be set up using timetotrade. The best part is that you don't need to know how to code or use complicate user interfaces to do it - just point and click using the Timetotrade Trigger Trading Technology™.

If you're away from your computer, timetotrade will watch the markets for you. As soon as your alert conditions are met this will trigger an email or SMS text alert to be sent to your pc or mobile phone.

Create and customise your own alerts against over 100+ technical indicators. Or create alerts for custom indicators. Simple, intuitive "point and click" system - no programming required.

You can even build compound multi-condition alerts which will be triggered if a series of events occurs, for example you could create an alert on a stock that will trigger if: the MACD rises above zero and then crosses over; or the stochastic rises above 80 and the MACD falls below the smoothed MACD; or the RSI of a stock was to fall below 70, followed by a price breaking a Support Trend Line and a stochastic crossover.

timetotrade watches the markets, so you don't have to. Use timetotrade to avoid missing trading opportunities, regardless of how busy you are ...and when it's time to trade we'll let you know!

How to Set Up Trend Line Alerts

To create an alert, go to the timetotrade CHARTS page and enter the ticker symbol for the stock or currency pair that you wish to use. This will take you to the chart alert creation page. Once you have set up your own timetotrade account you can customise your own chart preferences using the chart settings.

To draw diagonal Trend Lines on the chart, click the "draw trendline" button. This button is found to the top right hand side of the chart, as illustrated in the following screen shot:

Draw trend lines 1.png

Position your mouse cursor on the chart where you would like the Trend Line to begin and left click your mouse button. Holding down the button, manoeuvre the line until you are happy with the alignment and then let go of the button.

You can continue to draw additional trend lines, or click the "draw trendline" button again to stop.

Each trend line has two circular spots - these are the "drag points":

Draw trend lines 2.png

Click and drag on either of the drag points to change the gradient of the trendline:

Draw trend lines 3.png

To move the Trend Line without changing its gradient, click at any point on the Trend Line between the two "drag points":

Draw trend lines 4.png

keeping your mouse button held down, move the Trend Line to where you want it to go and then release the mouse. To learn more about how to draw and manage Trend Lines such as change the colour or create parallel lines, click here.

On the lower left hand side of the price chart are a set of "Alert Trigger" buttons.

Trend Line Alert Creation 1.png

To create a Trend Line alert, click on a Trend Line to select it, then click on the appropriate trigger button at the bottom left hand side of the price chart. There are no programming languages to learn, no spreadsheets or complex formulas to write. Just click an alert trigger button and activate your alert.

Simple!

The following Trend Line Alert Triggers are available on the timetotrade system:

Rising Threshold Alert Button.png
Price Rising Above Trendline Alert Trigger
Click the Trend Line trigger button to create alerts to execute trades, or notify you, when the price crosses above the selected Trend Line

Falling Threshold Alert Button.png
Price Falling Below Trendline Alert Trigger
Click the Trend Line trigger button to create alerts to execute trades, or notify you, when the price falls below the selected Trend Line

You can also create alerts if the Price is Above or Below a Trend Line using the Alert Builder. For information on the the other price alert types, please refer to the Stock & Forex Price Alerts tutorial.

Create Price Rising Above Trend Line Alert

To create an alert that will execute a trade, or send a notification, when the price rises above a selected trend line, click the price "Rising above Trend Line Alert Trigger" button on the chart, select the 'Close' Price from the 'Create new trigger when' popup and then click on the 'Add Trigger' button:

In this example the alert trigger will be configured to evaluate it on each tick during the interval, rather at the end of the interval:

To learn more about alert interval periods click here. Now that the Trend Line Alert Trigger has been added to the alert, create a message to remind yourself why you created the alert. Activate the alert and the next time the Price Rises above the Moving Average, you will be notified by email or SMS:

And that's it! Your alert is created. It really is that simple.

The next time the price closes above the trend line, you will receive an alert to your email or mobile phone.

Price Falling Below Trend Line Alerts

To create an alert that will execute trades, or notify you, when the Open, High, Low or Close price falls below a selected trend line, click on the trend Line you wish to create the alert against (the trend line will have a border to indicate it is selected), and then click the price "Price Falling Below Trendline Alert Trigger" button:

and repeat the steps discussed in the previous example.

Create Technical Indicator Trend Line Alerts

Multi-Condition Alerts

timetotrade can also be used to create alerts on Price and Volume as well as the technical indicators such as Stochastic, RSI, Bollinger Bands and Moving Averages plus a lot more.

Once you are familiar with creating basic alerts you can use timetotrade's advanced features to customise your alerts to suit you. You can build compound alerts containing multiple trigger conditions against price and multiple technical indicators; for example: you could set up rule that will trigger an alert to be sent to you when the price falls below a defined value followed by the stochastic increasing above 20 and a positive MACD crossover:

Multi Condition Alert 1.png

You can also edit the alert message you will receive and you can specify where particular alerts are to be sent - to your email and/or mobile phone or PDA.

Check Alert Triggers at Interval Close or on Each Tick During the Interval

Alerts can be set up to execute a trade or provide a notification at the end of an interval or if the alert trigger conditions are met during the interval. When creating alerts, set the 'Check trigger when' field to 'interval closes' or 'on each tick during the interval' to change the behaviour.

For example if you wanted to check if the Close Price at the end of a 15 minute interval rises above 1.5, select 'interval closes' as illustrated:

Check trigger interval 1.png

If however you wanted to check for example if the hourly RSI falls below 30 and want to get an alert if that happens during the 1 hour interval, rather than checking at the close of the 1 hour interval, check the alert trigger 'on each tick during the interval' as illustrated:

Check trigger interval 2.png
