Have you ever looked at pinstriped financiers and thought, 'What do they do that I can't?'
Why pay a professional to handle your money for you when their complicated antics carry expensive charges and, at times, leave you out of pocket?
Nevermind that bit where they threw the planet into financial freefall.
An increasing number of everyday, non-professional investors are beginning to trade currencies and shares from the comfort of their homes using subscription trading platforms.
One such platform is the online service timetotrade and they let us behind the scenes to test it out and interview their boss.
Using charts, analysis and tips this allows you to hone your trading skills by choosing a group of shares and back-testing their performance to see what you would have earned had you invested.
You can then choose how high you want the shares to rise or how low they can fall before the site alerts you to their performance.
For example, you are alerted – by text if you wish – when a share hits a certain price, which may compel you to sell and bank your profits.
The site, which is relatively complicated at first but less so with use, doesn't allow you to actually trade the shares: you still have to call your broker and organise that independently.
However, timetotrade said it is working on integrating this function into the site later this year, so you should be able to do all your share trading on the site in due course. Any potential brokerage fees will be in addition to the site's £99.99 annual or £9.99 monthly charges.
But is it right to encourage everyday individuals to risk losing the shirt on their backs by partaking in high risk trading? Or should everyone be given the chance to become a successful, millionaire trader?
We talked to Dary McGovern, managing director of timetotrade...
